This project involves the construction of a new 10 story steel frame structure that is structurally connected to the adjacent historic building at One Kearny so that the new complex will function as one building. The site is within the Kearny-Mason-Sutter Conservation District. The existing building consisted of concrete slabs and a structural steel frame making it a challenge to combine the new structure with the existing steel and concrete. The stylish new 130,000-square-foot project packs a century of urban design into half a block of Market Street, using a new brick-red terra cotta and black metal 50,000-square-foot addition to quilt together a baroque 1902 high-rise and a post-modern 1956 annex.
