Merced-Castle Airport Paving Project, Merced, CA
Rehabilitation of the existing 6,000 ft. long concrete runway with a new asphaltic surface to conform to FAA requirements. After partially grinding the PCC pavement and substituting it with asphalt concrete, a porous friction course was used as surface layer. The project was constructed in two phases to maintain airport operations. ISI services included FAA QA testing, QA inspection during construction and pavement consulting. 2004 |

Pardee Parking Lot, Oakland, CA
As an interim measure during the Oakland Airport parking garage construction, a remote asphalt pavement parking lot with some 4,000 parking spaces was constructed at Pardee Drive in Oakland. It will be turned into a long term parking facility once the parking garage is finished. ISI's scope of service included compaction testing of the subgarde, subbase, aggregate base and asphalt concrete pavement for the parking area as well as reinforcing steel and concrete placement inspection and sampling for the light pole bases and bus shelters. 2003 |

Cologne/Bonn International Airport, Germany
Working for the Institute for Road Construction at Aachen University of Technology, Can Celik, P.E.,G.E., and Dr. Sven van der Sluis, P.E. (now with ISI) were part of the Institute's QA testing and inspection team and supervised and inspected several extension projects for the airport. Inspections included compaction testing of in-situ soil, lime stabilization, subbase and aggregate base material, and asphalt concrete pavement as well as determination of mechanical properties of concrete pavement. The untreated materials were tested for Organic Impurities, Sieve Analysis/Gradations and Moisture-Density-Curves; they also performed Compression Tests of the concrete pavement and Marshall Tests on the asphalt pavement. |
